Volunteer Program Philosophy/Purpose Statement
Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is a volunteer driven, social justice organization, that believes every member of each school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. GLSEN volunteers develop programs and networks to support students, educators and communities around safety and anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender bullying and harassment in schools. Volunteers are the backbone to any non-profit organization, so we need volunteers for every event we do. By volunteering with GLSEN Washington State, you will get a vast knowledge on LGBT Bias in schools, and a broad understanding of harassment in general. We are looking for volunteers to help carry out our great work in our committees: 1. Student Organizing . GLSEN Washington State's Student Organizing Committee (SOC) has tons of opportunities available for volunteers interested in supporting our mission of assuring that Members of the SOC team will be involved in activities such as: --Day of Silence Trainings for GSA's --Organizing Regional Youth Leadership Summits --Helping organize GLSEN Washingtons first Youth Council 2. FunDevelopment. The FunDevelopment (FunD) Committee develops fund raising projects that support GLSEN Washington State's programs such as: several Youth Leadership Summits, Safe Space Trainings, Day of Silence Trainings, etc. All of these programs support GLSEN's mission to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. There are three ways to get involved with this committee: Grant Writing: Grants will be used mostly to support summits and trainings throughout each year. Corporate Fund Raising: We are looking for volunteers with experience in corporate fund raising and development to help us expand on this department of the FunD committee. Fund Raising Events: We do several fund raising events each year. We are looking for volunteers interested in developing and implementing successful fund raising events. 3. Professional Development.
