Youth Pride DanceJun 24, 2011
On June 24th, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) of Washington State will be holding a Youth Pride Dance at Pravda Studios from 7pm to midnight. This event is intended to give the under 21 community of LGBTQ youth and their allies a safe and fun way to participate in Seattle's Pride weekend.
The theme of the dance is "Born This Way" to go along with Pride's theme of "Be You. Be Proud. Express Yourself!" The Youth Pride Dance hopes to honor this theme by allowing youth a space to celebrate themselves. We want to create a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and their allies to celebrate Seattle Pride Weekend. Many of the events are targeted for groups over age 21. Youth tend to be excluded from a majority of the Pride Weekend Events. We want to start a new tradition GLSEN strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. We work with Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) groups in schools in the Seattle area and around the state as well as other LGBTQ youth centers, groups and organizations. If anyone is interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Andi Gold at andi@wagsa.org or 206-330-2099.
