We had a great turnout for our meeting, with several GSA's represented. We talked with our representatives from the GLBT Chamber of Commerce and they are committed to our social event on November 5 where we are actively seeking to get our GSA sponsors together with members from the GLBT Chamber. It will be a great time to meet and greet each other.

We are also planning--Brenda and Karen have the lead on this--our 2010 Student Leadership Retreat for a full day in January. We hope to use the Holiday Inn again for the event since it was so successful last year. The head of the Sunnyside High School GSA also volunteered to work closely with Brenda and Karen on planning the event.

Reports from the GSA's represented showed a growth in participation at most of the high schools. Of concern to us was the statement that homophobia seems to be on the rise again after having improved greatly over the past few years. It points out the need for up-dated staff training and the GSA's indicated a real willingness to provide the trainings at their school sites. Of course, it is the most effective type of training!
