Summer Festival Tabling Season is underway!
Apr 20, 2009
GLSEN Richmond participates with an information table in a variety of local festivals in order to increase chapter visibility, provide information and resources to the general public, and to recruit individuals for involvement in the chapter.
Our first two tabling efforts were very successful. Board member Maggie Sacra staffed a table at the University of Richmond’s Day of Silence on April 17th. Maggie reported very good booth traffic, with individuals very appreciative of our presence on campus on that day. Chapter Co-Chair John Leppo staffed a table at the Richmond Earth Day Celebration Festival on April 18th. Approximately 38 individuals visited our booth over the 6 hours of the festival, and received resource literature or information about glbt youth and school issues. The Earth Day Festival co-chair personally visited our booth and indicated he was pleased we were able to participate in Earth Day this year.
Volunteers are needed to help with other tabling efforts later this summer. You would be paired with a more experienced GLSEN member, so previous experience is not necessary. You can work the full period of the festival, or just help out during a part. If you are interested, email us at glsenrichmond@yahoo.org.
Future tabling efforts include: the Animalia Festival on Sat. June 6th, at the 17th Street Farmers Market; the Richmond Vegetarian Festival on Sat. June 20th, at the Azalea Gardens of Bryan Park; the Shockoe Tomato Festival on Sat. July 11th at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market. Of course, we will again table at Richmond Pride Festival in September. We hope to add two new tabling events this year – the Capital One Employees Community Involvement Fair, and the Fredericksburg Pride festivities.
