Steve Brown, activist in the Kansas City LGBT community, passed away on February 19.

Thomas Witt, state chair of the Kansas Equality Coalition, said, "Steve will long be remembered for his tireless work to bring equality and fairness to LGBT Kansans. He was the founding president of the Kansas Democratic Party's LGBT Caucus, was a founding member of the Kansas Equality Coalition, and until his death served as the Chairman of KEC’s Northeast Kansas chapter. In addition to his work in Kansas, Steve has worked with a number of Missouri LGBT organizations over the years."

Tiffany Muller, research director for Hamilton Campaigns said, Brown "was a tireless advocate, constantly pushing us all to fight for equality. I was lucky to have had the honor to work with him for many years and most of all to call him a friend."

In a tribute to Brown, Randy Hite, former
Steve Brown at 2009 EQUAL Summit.
GLSEN GKC board member said, "Steve, you made a difference in the world. Your voice was always there, fighting for a chance to be heard among the crowd. You were someone who we all counted on to stir things up. Your dedication to the cause will always be remembered. Thanks for never giving up. We will continue the work that you were so dedicated to. It was an honor to know you and work with you. Thanks for everything, and especially for your friendship."

Jason Clinton, GLSEN Greater Kansas City, added, "Nothing speaks better of him than the number of organizations that will reel from the loss of his tireless work."

John Long, Camp Magazine, wrote, "You are such an inspiration to us all."

Steve Brown was a friend of GLSEN Greater Kansas City. We will miss him.
