Kingston High School Diversity MuralKingston High School GSA Makes a Statement of AcceptanceThe walls of the Kingston High School cafeteria are now covered with images of diversity and acceptance thanks to the school's GSA and Diversity Clubs.Designed by the GSA, one mural depicts interlocking puzzle pieces in LGBT pride colors. Words and phrases within the puzzle celebrate love, acceptance and peace. The mural designed by the school's Diversity Club contains images of flags from nations around the world all embedded in the stripes of the American flag. Together these murals make a giant statement about accepting the diversity among us while demonstrating just how interconnected we all are. 1. Plan a project in your school that allows students to find creative ways to get their message across. Your project could be a mural, banner, quilt, photo show, book 2. Explore ways to celebrate acceptance in your school in a permanent way. Establish a yearbook page for your GSA. Fundraise to provide a scholarship for a student in your school that has been a model of acceptance. Purchase materials or resources for the middle or elementary schools in your district that promote diversity. 3. Lead the way to acceptance--work with other clubs and students in your school to accomplish a project or simply invite them to a meeting of the GSA to better understand the work you do. |
