Wallkill High School Synthesis

Club Celebrates National Coming Out Day
Oct 11, 2007

The Wallkill High School Synthesis Club, which serves as the school's GSA while focusing on all diversity issues, celebrated National Coming Out Day by creating this bulletin board.

Synthesis members wrote brief essays describing their own Coming Out experiences- -some of them using this as their first step in Coming Out as LGBT.

Students and staff alike said the stories and the beautiful artwork that accompanied them were both moving and empowering!

*National Coming Out Day is held every year on October 11th*

IDEAS FOR YOUR SCHOOL:

1. Create a bulletin board of your own around LGBT history; anti-bullying; Pride; GLSEN Days of Action...the possibilities are endless.

2. Hold a creative expression contest for the whole school around LGBT issues. Have GSA members serve as "judges" and display the winning entries on a bulletin board.
