Ulster BOCES Principal to Speak at GSA Summit

Feb 23, 2008

Transgender Ulster BOCES Principal Genna Suraci addressed GSA students, Advisors and Allies at GLSEN-Hudson Valley's GSA Summit in Ulster County.

Principal Suraci's recent transition brought transgender issues in schools to the forefront at the beginning of this school year when a number of local papers covered her return to work. See articles in Times Herald Record and The Daily Freeman.

This was a rare and important opportunity for students to discuss transgender issues as they impact individuals and school districts as a whole.

The GSA Summit, which is designed as a planning and networking meeting for GSAs, also included opportunity for GSAs to develop plans for raising transgender awareness in their own schools.
