The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
GLSEN Alaska is one of over 470 chapters of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network. This national organization and our local chapter work to make schools a safe learning environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth and teaching staff.
GLSEN does this work by supporting Gay Straight Alliances in middle and high schools, supporting GSA advisors and providing training to school staffs on LGBT issues. GLSEN also works to change school policies to make schools safe for all.
GLSEN Alaska sponsors teacher in services, the GSA-PRIDE Prom, City-wide GSA meetings, presentations at the Alaska PRIDE Conference, student participation in the PRIDE Parade and PrideFest and networks with other organizations who support LGBT and questioning youth.
Letter From GLSEN Alaska
Chapters like ours play an important role in bringing GLSENs programs and visions to local communities. While some chapters have full-time or part-time staff, most are entirely volunteer-based. Were always looking for new volunteers to help us ensure safe schools for all students.
